The British and Irish Lions vs New Zealand was shown live on TV at Bream Sports Club. More than 40 Lions supporters turned up at 8 a.m. to watch the game. Although they would be made welcome, there were no Kiwis present!
Thanks to Lou for making numerous cups of tea and coffee and to Glyn for making the bacon rolls. Thanks also to all that turned up to watch the game. The score ended up as 15-15 and the series was drawn.
Our area has a long-standing connection with New Zealand rugby. The Bathurst Cup was donated in 1931 by Lord Bledisloe of Lydney. Lord Bledisloe (then Charles Bathurst) also donated the cup that is still contested in the Forest – the Forest of Dean Combination Cup.
